Before you start

Install the Rust toolchain first if you have not (rustup is the easy way). Rust Studio uses cargo, and rust-analyzer gives the editor its code intelligence. For Android apps you also need the Android SDK and NDK; the Android setup check inside Rust Studio tells you what is missing.

  • Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), macOS (Apple silicon and Intel) or Linux (x86-64, X11 or Wayland)
  • Rust toolchain (rustup recommended; the Windows installer can set it up for you)
  • About 10 MB of disk for Rust Studio itself
  • Silent install for IT: Setup.exe /S /D=C:\Tools

Install in three steps

  1. Download

Choose the installer above and check the SHA-256 if you like.

  2. Install

Windows: run the installer (it may show a SmartScreen notice because that installer is not code-signed yet). macOS: open the disk image and drag Rust Studio to Applications, or run the package. Linux: unpack the archive and run ./install.sh, or install the .deb.

  3. Start

Open Rust Studio, choose New Project, press F5.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know when a new version is out?

Rust Studio checks for a newer version once a day and tells you inside the app. You can also subscribe on this page to get an e-mail; you confirm your address first and can unsubscribe in one click.

Why does Windows show a SmartScreen warning?

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows does not know the publisher. Compare the SHA-256 shown on this page with the downloaded file if you want to be sure.

How do I uninstall?

Windows: Settings, Apps, Rust Studio, Uninstall. Your settings and AI provider keys in %APPDATA%\RustStudio are kept. macOS: drag Rust Studio from Applications to the Bin. Linux: run uninstall.sh from the archive, or remove the .deb package.

Is Rust Studio free?

Yes. Rust Studio is free for personal and commercial use, with no licence key and nothing to pay. Use it for 7 days straight away; after that you sign up for a free account with your e-mail address. It is closed-source freeware.

Who makes Rust Studio?

Rust Studio is a product of FOWLGUARD, the company behind Fowlguard Secure and Fowlguard Productivity. It is one of its free tools; see fowlguard.com.

Which systems does Rust Studio run on?

Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), macOS and Linux (x86-64, X11 or Wayland). You can build for the desktop, the web and Android from it. iOS builds need a Mac with Xcode.
